Obituary


Funeral services for George E. Bayne, age 94 of DePeyster will be held at 11:00am on Saturday at the Cornerstone Wesleyan Church with Rev. Carl Chapman, Rev. Paul Dettmer, Rev. Tom Nichols and Pastor David Norman officiating. Burial will follow services are Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Bayne passed away at his home on Monday (May 15, 2017) surrounded by his loving family.

Surviving are his 3 sons Mark Bayne of Churchville NY, Stephen Bayne & his companion Marilyn Moore of DePeyster and Phillip Bayne & his wife Shelley of DePeyster; a daughter Judy Morgan & her husband James of Churchville NY; a sister Shirley Layo & her husband Stanley of Cicero NY; grandchildren Zachari & Ethan Morgan, Elizabeth Otis, Breanna Koerick & her husband Kevin; step grandson Patrick Umphries; great-grandson Kaiden Koerick along with nieces, nephews & cousins. His wife Ruth along with two brothers Lester & Donald Bayne predeceased him.

Born in the town of Macomb, NY on December 10, 1922, the son of Sherd & Dona (Parish) Bayne. He graduated from Heuvelton High School class of 1939 and attended Houghton College the following year. He married Ruth A. Seaman on January 24, 1948 at the Heuvelton Wesleyan Church with the ceremony being performed by the bride's brother Rev. Edwin C. Seaman. After their marriage the couple lived and worked at the Bayne Homestead farm in Macomb until purchasing their own farm in DePeyster in 1951. George also drove bus for the Heuvelton Central School for over 23.5 years while performing his farming duties. The farm is still operated years later by their sons, Stephen and Phillip. Mr. Bayne was an active member of the Heuvelton Wesleyan Church where he was a trustee for 50 years and served as Vice-Chairman, and also served on the Board of Directors of the Gouverneur Co-op Association.

George enjoyed singing and playing the piano with Ruth, fishing, playing baseball in his younger years and growing corn. Memorial contributions can be made to the Seaman Memorial Fund at Houghton College, 1 Willard Ave, Houghton, NY 14744.
